Black Hills Chapter Activities

"Gutes Essen und Gemutlichkeit" is Black Hills Chapter's objective for its annual German Dinner which will take place at the American Legion Post 22, Rapid City, on February 24. Chapter members are planning to sell 450 tickets for the dinner that includes German sausage, potato salad, knopfla, sauerkraut, kuchen, and a choice of beverages.

Members of the Black Hills Chapter have been invited to speak about their German-Russian heritage at the Rapid City Public Schools. While speaking at the schools, students are encouraged to write essays about their heritage and to enter their essays in both the Chapter's Youth Essay Contest and the International GRHS Contest.

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has invited the Black Hills Chapter to participate in their Cultural Exposition on March 30 - 31. At the Expo, international students attending SDSM&T present their culture through displays, native dress, songs, dances, and food. In past years, Chapter members have decorated a booth with German-Russian memorabilia, handed out literature concerning our heritage, and prepared an ethnic food, such as kuchen, for people to sample at the Expo.
