Censuses

So far, we have produced about 100 censuses for the Odessa and Bessarabian villages. The projects use teams, organized in progressive levels of translation ability. As these items are made available to the membership for purchase in paper form, they are available at the GRHS Bookstore.

We started providing this data in digital form on CDs in the Bookstore at the convention in 2006, sold only to the members of GRHS. The prices have been kept low so all of the membership will hopefully be able to procure their own copies.

Soon, we hope to gain permission from the Kischnev archives to put together a set of projects involving the Bessarabian census (see Archives Acquisition Committee). There are so far only a handful of new censuses that we have been able to identify among the approximately 850 new censuses available for Bessarabia.

We also have two Crimean censuses that are in process to be made available to the membership.

Church Records

The GRHS Archives Acquisition Committee has been bringing back copies of old church records of various villages and parishes and turning them over to the Clearing House for processing. Copies of these are available for purchase on paper or on the RIG CDs.

St. Petersburg Parish Indexing Projects (1833-1885)

We are working with the LDS in Salt Lake City to gain permission from the archives in Russia to continue this project. For now, this project is on hold as we adapt to the new policies the LDS has put into place regarding indexing of films in their collections.

St. Petersburg Parish Indexing Projects (1899-1917)

A significant number of the records we have gained copies of from the Nikolaev archives are for the BDO, GDO and Crimea.

We have projects underway with all three parts of this set of records to index and post to the three RIG webpages. The GDO portion, the smallest set, has been completed. While both the Crimea and BDO projects are much larger, the BDO is drawing close to completion; then the focus will turn to the Crimean records.
